Your Job Is Important. But Your Health Is More Important.

EVERLASTING FITNESS

Lately I’ve had conversations with several people who feel stretched thin.

Work schedules are changing. Hours are increasing. Stress is high. And the first thing getting cut?

The gym.

“I’ll come back when work slows down.”
“I just don’t have time right now.”

Let’s have the honest conversation.

Work rarely slows down.

And when we sacrifice our health for our job, what are we actually gaining?

More money?
More responsibility?
More stress?

You have one body.
One life.

Your health is not a luxury item. It’s not something you circle back to when things calm down. It’s the engine that allows everything else to run.

You Cannot Pour From an Empty Cup

We say we’re doing it for our families.

Working more. Grinding harder. Skipping workouts to “get ahead.”

But what does that look like long term?

More fatigue.
More irritability.
Less energy at home.
Less patience.
More health issues later.

You can’t show up fully for your family if you’re exhausted and run down.

You can’t lead at work at a high level if your body is inflamed, your sleep is poor, and your stress is through the roof.

Taking care of yourself is not selfish.
It’s responsible.

Fitness Is Not Time Wasted - It’s Performance Investment

When you train consistently:

You think clearer.
You manage stress better.
You sleep deeper.
You move without pain.
You build confidence.

All of that translates directly into better performance at work.

Better decisions.
More energy in meetings.
More efficiency.
Less burnout.

The irony is this:
The very thing people cut because they’re overwhelmed is the thing that would help them handle the overwhelm.

Adjusting Priorities

I’m not saying ignore your job.
I’m not saying work doesn’t matter.

But ask yourself:

Are you trading long term health for short term busyness?
Are you telling yourself “this is temporary” when it’s becoming a pattern?

Sometimes the schedule doesn’t need to change.
Sometimes the mindset does.

Maybe it’s not five days a week.
Maybe it’s three.
Maybe it’s 45 minutes instead of 60.
Maybe it’s early mornings instead of evenings.

But zero is not the solution.

Health isn’t all or nothing. It’s built in seasons. And during stressful seasons, movement matters even more.

The Bigger Picture

Your kids don’t care about your job title.
They care if you have energy to play.
They care if you’re present.
They care if you’re healthy.

Your spouse doesn’t need a burnt out version of you.
They need the strongest version of you.

And your employer?
They benefit when you’re sharp, energized, and resilient.

Taking care of yourself is not competing with your job.
It’s supporting it.

You deserve to feel strong.
You deserve to feel capable.
You deserve to live in a body that works for you, not against you.

The real question isn’t “Do I have time?”

The real question is,
“Can I afford not to?”

If your schedule is tight, let’s adjust the plan. Shorter sessions. Smarter programming. Clear priorities.

But don’t disappear.

Your health matters more than any job ever will.

Bret Lurz A Forged Life The Lost Art of Brotherhood Growing up, I didn’t have many strong male role models. The ones I had did the best they could with the tools they were given and the situations they were in. I can’t blame them. Looking back, they probably didn’t have many strong role models themselves. We have a tendency to repeat what we’re exposed to. I’m 50 years old. The generation of men before mine grew up with a very different set of expectations. Men provided. Men worked. Men...

Bret Lurz A FORGED LIFE The Human Connection Deficit The more people I talk to, especially men, the more I’m noticing the same thing. We’re connected to everything and connected to nothing. We’re told to be tougher. Work harder. Keep your head down. Keep grinding. Wake up and do it again tomorrow. We’re told that if we just keep pushing long enough, eventually we’ll arrive. So we chase. We chase fitness goals. Career goals. Financial goals. Status. Recognition. The next thing. And for a...

Bret Lurz A FORGED LIFE Maybe I’m Not an Introvert For most of my life, I labeled myself an introvert. Maybe I am. Maybe I’m not. When I was a kid, I could always occupy myself. I was perfectly content playing alone for hours. My mom tells me that when I woke up in my crib, I wouldn’t cry or scream. I’d just lay there and wait until someone came to get me. Being alone never bothered me. At the same time, being around people didn’t bother me either. I had friends. I made friends easily. I...
