EVERLASTING FITNESS

There’s a moment that stops a lot of people.

It shows up right when things start to get real.

You qualify for something.
You sign up for something.
You think about starting something.

And then the thoughts hit.

“I’m not ready.”
“I can’t do all the movements.”
“I’m not good at that yet.”
“What if I look bad?”
“What will people think?”

So you hesitate.
You look for an out.
You convince yourself to wait until you’re “better.”

Let’s call it what it is.

Fear.

Fear of failure.
Fear of judgment.
Fear of disappointment.

And it shows up at every level.

The Lie Fear Tells You

Fear is convincing.

It sounds logical.

It tells you to wait until you’re more prepared.
It tells you to avoid situations where you might struggle.
It tells you to protect your image.

But here’s the truth.

You don’t get ready by waiting.
You get ready by doing.

If you’re not good at something yet, that’s not a reason to avoid it.

That’s the exact reason to step into it.

Look at the Bigger Picture

Instead of focusing on what you can’t do, look at what you can do.

There are always pieces of the puzzle you’re strong in.

Movements you’re confident in.
Areas where you can push.
Opportunities to learn.

Progress isn’t about being perfect across the board.

It’s about stacking wins where you can and building the rest over time.

You don’t need to have everything figured out to take the next step.

Get in the Arena

If your goal is to get better, at some point you have to step into the arena.

You have to put yourself in the environment you want to grow into.

Train with people who are ahead of you.
Test yourself in situations that challenge you.
Expose your weaknesses instead of hiding from them.

Because that’s where growth actually happens.

It takes courage to do things you’re not good at.

Especially in front of other people.

But that’s the price of improvement.

This Isn’t Just About Competition

This applies to everything.

The person thinking about trying CrossFit for the first time.
The person worried about being the most out of shape in the room.
The person afraid of not knowing what to do.

Everyone starts somewhere.

No one walks in confident on day one.
No one has everything figured out.

The only difference between those who change and those who don’t is this:

Some people decide to try anyway.

If You Want Different, You Have to Do Different

If you want to improve… you have to put yourself in situations where improvement is required.

If you want confidence… you have to earn it through action.

If you want to grow… you have to get uncomfortable.

There is no way around it.

You won’t always feel ready.
You won’t always feel confident.

But you can always choose to show up.

And that choice changes everything.

Believe in Yourself Enough to Try

You don’t need to be the best.
You don’t need to have every skill.
You don’t need to feel fully prepared.

You just need to believe in yourself enough to take the step.

To show up.
To try.
To learn.

Because once you do, you’ll realize something.

You were capable all along.

Bret Lurz A Forged Life The Lost Art of Brotherhood Growing up, I didn’t have many strong male role models. The ones I had did the best they could with the tools they were given and the situations they were in. I can’t blame them. Looking back, they probably didn’t have many strong role models themselves. We have a tendency to repeat what we’re exposed to. I’m 50 years old. The generation of men before mine grew up with a very different set of expectations. Men provided. Men worked. Men...

Bret Lurz A FORGED LIFE The Human Connection Deficit The more people I talk to, especially men, the more I’m noticing the same thing. We’re connected to everything and connected to nothing. We’re told to be tougher. Work harder. Keep your head down. Keep grinding. Wake up and do it again tomorrow. We’re told that if we just keep pushing long enough, eventually we’ll arrive. So we chase. We chase fitness goals. Career goals. Financial goals. Status. Recognition. The next thing. And for a...

Bret Lurz A FORGED LIFE Maybe I’m Not an Introvert For most of my life, I labeled myself an introvert. Maybe I am. Maybe I’m not. When I was a kid, I could always occupy myself. I was perfectly content playing alone for hours. My mom tells me that when I woke up in my crib, I wouldn’t cry or scream. I’d just lay there and wait until someone came to get me. Being alone never bothered me. At the same time, being around people didn’t bother me either. I had friends. I made friends easily. I...
